At present, Russian legislation does not require taxpayers—neither individuals nor legal entities—to automatically notify tax authorities about transactions on cryptocurrency exchanges. Such a requirement is absent both in the Tax Code of the Russian Federation and in Federal Law No. 259-FZ on Digital Financial Assets. However, it is important to note that when income is derived from cryptocurrency operations (for example, from sales or exchanges), the taxpayer is obliged to independently report such income in the tax declaration and pay the relevant tax (such as corporate income tax for organizations). Additionally, future legislative amendments aimed at strengthening control over crypto assets may introduce obligations for declaration or automatic information exchange between states and exchanges. Therefore, companies are advised to maintain comprehensive records of all transactions and be prepared to substantiate the origin and movement of funds during tax audits.
