On the territory of the Russian Federation, the use of cryptocurrency as a means of payment is prohibited (Part 5, Article 14 of Federal Law No. 259-FZ). This prohibition also applies to charitable donations, as such donations constitute a form of transferring economic benefit in exchange for the obligation of targeted use. As a result, Russian non-profit organizations are not legally permitted to accept cryptocurrency as donations. This form of support falls under the same restriction as payments for goods and services made in cryptocurrency. Nonetheless, some foreign foundations and international organizations may accept cryptocurrency donations, provided that such transactions are allowed under the laws and infrastructure of their country of registration. However, within the Russian Federation, this possibility is currently not provided for by law.
